Walking the Camino: A Journey of Radical Hope and Meaning

I’m walking the 800 km. Camino de Santiago not just to explore a pilgrimage path but to listen deeply to stories of renewal and purpose from pilgrims worldwide. These encounters, along with my reflections and research, will shape "A Companion for Hope and Meaning"- a living guide and community resource to help anyone feeling lost or in transition find hope, meaning, and practical tools for life’s uncertainties.
This is not another travelogue. It is a heartfelt integration of pilgrims’ real voices, rigorous hope and meaning research, and accessible resources to help readers reconnect to hope and courage.
My own journey is deeply personal. As the son of a Holocaust survivor, I grew up witnessing both my father’s unimaginable loss as well as his profound resilience and belief in life. His legacy shaped my lifelong quest to understand how hope and meaning are passed on through- and despite- trauma- and how we can choose life despite suffering.
At the heart of this project is the wisdom of Viktor Frankl, author of Man’s Search for Meaning and founder of Logotherapy- a therapy centered on helping people discover purpose and responsibility even amid suffering. Frankl’s timeless questions guide this work: What is life asking of me now? How do we keep hope alive?
Logotherapy teaches that meaning is always possible, and hope can be a radical act of choosing life in the face of adversity. This concept of radical hope fuels my Camino walk and the Companion, inviting us all to affirm life courageously, no matter the darkness we endure.
