“The greatest potential for growth and self-realization exists in the second half of life."
| Carl Jung
Congratulations! We have all received 20-30 or more years of life as a gift!
Over the past 100 years, life expectancy in the West has been increased by about 30 years. We are living much longer than any other period in the history of mankind. If we were born a century ago, our chances of living to age 65 would only amount to 15% on the whole. Today, 80th and 90th birthday celebrations, and beyond, are more and more frequent in Western society. And this is just a small part of the revolution in aging that is taking place.
If you have already passed age 50, or 60, perhaps 70, and yes, even 80 and beyond, you may have already understood the "secret" that nobody seems to be talking too much about. That is: as opposed to that which we have had pumped into our ears and minds all these years, and despite that which we ourselves have internalized, the stereotypical and harmful messages. It just is not so! Absolutely not. The world does NOT belong only to the young!
We all need to remember not to dwell on what appears on the "outside," but to go and explore "inside." To dig deep inside…
When we do stop and quietly observe, when we learn how to look and explore the "layers at the bottom,"
we will come upon something truly moving and amazing. That because we have had the privilege to grow older, we are now able to access our own "personal wisdom" better than ever before. Thanks to our age, the experience of our lives, the insights, and the challenges we have faced throughout the years, we today have a tremendous opportunity to "harvest our wisdom;" wisdom that is a product of an inner and personal journey, that can be done alone but also shared with others.
